  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
  • My teaser:

"I shook my head. 'Can't sleep with a dead man in my closet.'
'You killed someone?' asked Ben with interest."

Review: Adam by Jacquelyn Frank

Adam by: Jacquelyn Frank
(Zebra 2011, 354 pages)
Cost: Free, ebookfling
Review:

Characters

Adam is a water demon who was immediately drawn to Jasmin, a vampire, from their first meeting despite the fact that they are enemies. After meeting again, 400 years later, Jasmin learns that what she had felt was missing in her life was the demon who had disappeared.

Plot
I'm going to try and write this without ANY spoilers. You'll understand after you read the book, which I do recommend. I've read this series from the beginning and was so excited to get to this one (the 6th). The way this story starts out though made me feel so shocked and upset I'm not really sure if I forgive the author for the twist in this book. Even though, as with the rest of the series, I got my HEA, it was such an emotional roller coaster to read most of the beginning of the book. I felt disappointed in characters that I had already put to bed in past books and a little skeptical that they would have reacted the way they did to the situation.

Once I got past the turning point in the story I enjoyed the romance the author created between Adam and Jasmin. I recommend this one but be prepared for a few shocks if you have any attachment to the other books in the series.

Book Beginnings: The Hunger Games

Book Beginnings is a weekly Friday meme hosted by A Few More Pages.

How to participate: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments. Include the title and the author so we know what you're reading. Then, if you would like, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us know if you liked or did not like the sentence. The link-up will be at A Few More Pages every Friday and will be open for the entire week.

Here is mine:

"When I wake up, the other side of the bed is cold. My fingers stretch out, seeking Prim's warmth but find only the rough canvas cover of the mattress."

I love how this book starts. It is so simple and I feel like I just jump right into the story. I'm looking forward to this read. EVERYONE keeps telling me how much I'm going to love it.

Friday's News and Notables

News and Notables I came across this week:

I WANT:

Some of the posts make me laugh, some make me sad.

I love Wikipedia. You can look up anything on there.

A blog about Novel Challenges. Handy.

Have you heard about ebookfling? It is seriously the best thing since sliced bread. If you read ebooks I highly recommend you check it out.

I don't think I've ever read a mermaid romance before, but I think I have to hunt these down just for giggles.

Review: Holding the Dream by Nora Roberts

Holding the Dream By: Nora Roberts
(Jove (1997 368 pages)
Cost: Free Audio book, Library
Review:

Characters

Kate is a headstrong CPA who finds herself in a difficult situation when she is accused of embezzling clients funds at the firm she works at. Byron is a southern gentleman who finds himself drawn to Kate's vulnerability despite her not being his usual type.

Plot
A typical Nora Roberts cookie cutter book. The woman resists, the man pursues. They have their issues but figure it out by the end. A good read, as always, when it comes to a book by someone who has the whole romance novel business down to a science. What I like about these type of books is that you are rarely disappointed. With a Nora Roberts book you can usually count on a good story, a dog or two, some flowers thrown in somewhere, and a HEA that makes you glad you picked it up.

Desire is the deadliest weapon.

The Sylvermysts have a reputation as sinister cousins to the fey, and none are more mysterious than Ariyal and his tribe.

To save his people from banishment, he faces a new challenge: Jaelyn, an elite vampire warrior sent to capture him. By rights, he should kill her on sight. Yet he cannot bring himself to hurt her—or to resist her…

Jaelyn is stunningly beautiful, utterly lethal—and always alone. Until Ariyal. From their first encounter, she knows that what's between them is more dangerous than simple lust. And as they unite to thwart a terrifying prophecy that will mean the end of his clan and of the world they know, she will risk everything to fulfill her destiny by his side…

Just added this to my ebookfling.com wishlist. So excited!!

My teaser:

"Maybe someday the heavens and the universe beyond would become part of their domain, but it would very likely be a long time before a child was born to an element of that magnitude. And while Demons were far more advanced in science, culture, and logic than humans were, they were admittedly still savages themselves in other ways."

I'm on page 109 and suffering from eye strain because I NEED TO GO TO BED. But I can't because the book won't let me.  ;)

Review: Trace of Fever by Lori Foster

Trace of Fever By: Lori Foster
(HQN Books (2011), Edition: Original, Mass Market Paperback, 400 pages)
Cost: Free (Ebook downloaded from Public Library via Overdrive)

Review:
Trace is a mercenary who is working to uncover a human trafficking operation. While undercover he meets Priss when she proclaims herself to be the daughter of the very person Trace is trying to take down. Trace is assigned to keep an eye on Priss while "Daddy" figures out what to do with her.

I enjoyed the book though there were some issues I had with the story. The guy Trace is trying to take down tried to have Trace killed. Trace survived, of course, and then asked his "boss" about it. I don't understand the logic of the "boss" believing Traces motivation for working for him as altruistic if Trace was still okay to work there. I would have been a bit miffed if I were Trace and suspicious if I were the boss. Maybe you have to be a corrupt, human trafficking boss to believe that kind of logic. Also, Priss' character fell a little flat for me. She lived a secluded and sheltered life while at the same time owned and worked in a porn shop?? Unlikely. The sex scenes were hot and the tender "I will protect you don't worry" moments were well done.

All in all, a good book to pass the time if you can ignore some realities and just enjoy the mushy stuff.
